Sanitary measures which remove from the neighbourhood of man infected matter still seem to be those best calculated to combat the disease, and the general cleansing of the native tenements which has been carried out during the past two years will be repeated in the coming Winter.

If it is possible to communicate artificially to rats a disease not communicable by them to man, this would undoubtedly by lessening the number of these animals in the Colony decrease the extent to which rat plague bridges over the period between epidemics. In this connection the effect of the promised application of Professor Rown's methods to Hongkong will be of great interest.
